Installment service
Sunday, September 21st, 2008 | Posted in EventsToday Erik Bonkovsky was officially installed as pastor of Franklin Street with help from friends and supporters at Grace Community, West End, and Stony Point. After the service, everyone walked over to Cous Cous for a celebratory dinner.
Today Erik preached from 1 John, 2:28-3:2. The central message was this: let God’s love define who you are. Don’t let the regard (or lack of regard) of others define you. When things are going well — when you’ve got that promotion at work, when you’re feeling healthy, when your relationships with others are soaring — resist the temptation to let those successes become the basis of your happiness. And when things are going badly, resist the temptation to forget that God loves you and would never cast you aside. Regardless of current circumstances, build your self-image on what is constant and neverending: the love of God.
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
Loaves and Fishes, 9.21.08
Sunday, September 21st, 2008 | Posted in OutreachThis morning we had the opportunity to serve food to some of the area’s needy at our regular installment of Loaves and Fishes. Not only do we get to prepare a meal and give it out for free, but we get to do it while catching up with friends, meeting new people, laughing incessantly, and just feeling great in general.
